HIV Services Campaign

Since 1989, CHASI has provided comprehensive HIV prevention and direct services for Staten Islanders. Now, CHASI provides health outreach, education, prevention and direct services for populations most vulnerable and affected by health disparities – HIV+ people, youth, people with chemical dependency, people of color, poor and low income individuals and families and the LGBT community.

Over time, their services expanded in direct proportion and kind to the needs of the Staten Island community. In 2009, they served over 700 HIV+ people with direct services, 440 people with addiction treatment; over 7,700 poor and working individuals with food and benefits assistance; 2,290 persons with HIV testing and referrals; 524 youth with reproductive health services; and 8,027 youth and adults with health education workshops. Our three neighborhood storefronts recorded 9,757 visits for information, safer sex supplies, health education and referrals, and our Mobile Health unit counted 6,592 service visits. Our LGBT Center served over 1,020 LGBT Staten Islanders with information, referrals, workshops, computer access, mental health services, and services for youth.

FY Eye implemented an outdoor one-sheet poster campaign for CHASI to increase their visibility throughout Staten Island.  We were able to secure 10% more locations as an added bonus for CHASI.  Within the first week of the campaign's launch, seven HIV+ individuals signed up for services.
