About the PSA
People with Medicare—half of whom live on incomes of $26,200 or less per year—spend almost 15% of their household incomes on health care. The Medicare Savings Program (MSP), administered by each state’s Medicaid program, helps pay for Medicare premiums for lower-income individuals, expanding health care access and affordability for older adults and people with disabilities.
Together, the MSP and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides monthly food assistance, can save people with Medicare money on both health care and food costs.
