COVID-19 has resulted in a sharp increase in the hunger crisis that started before the pandemic. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits can be used like cash to purchase food to combat food insecurity. Increased funding for SNAP benefits is currently available through September 2021. The West Side Campaign Against Hunger offers virtual social service support to help New Yorkers enroll, recertify, and submit documentation to access the SNAP benefits for which they are eligible.
Through a supermarket-style food pantry, West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) alleviates hunger and creates a culture that promotes self-reliance and works for change. WSCAH changes perceptions of hungry people by working in partnership with them, providing food with dignity, and empowering customers to find solutions.
